Midland “Red” Depots and Garages in Nuneaton

Burgage Walk, Nuneaton.
Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) expanded their operations to the Nuneaton area from Friday 1st February 1918, when they took over the operations of North Warwickshire Motor Omnibus and Traction Company Limited. Operations in the area quickly expanded and five different sites in the town have been used to garage the company’s vehicles.
- North Warwickshire Motor Omnibus and Traction Company Limited formed in October 1913 to take over operations of Mr J Thorburn in the Tamworth, Atherstone and Nuneaton area. Vehicles in Tamworth operated from a garage on Burgage Walk.
- Site occupied, on paper at least, by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) from Friday 1st February 1918, following the take over of the operations of North Warwickshire Motor Omnibus and Traction Company Limited.
- Burgage Walk site initially unused by BMMO, probably due to being requisitioned by War Office, and services in the area were operated from Tamworth (Two Gates) depot, which was a site that was also acquired from North Warwickshire Motor Omnibus and Traction Company Limited.
- Site occupied by BMMO from Saturday 14th February 1920, with an allocation of six vehicles. This does not provide sufficient capacity for services in the area, so Nuneaton (Heath End Road) garage is rented to provide overnight vehicle accommodation from the same time.
- Staff and vehicles moving to a new purpose-built site, Nuneaton (Coton Road) depot, from Wednesday 21st December 1921.
- Closed January 1922.
