Service 379 (1930–1939)

Service 379 was introduced by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) on Saturday 28^th June 1930, running on Saturdays only between Worcester and Great Malvern via Bransford, Leigh Sinton, and Belmont.

The service was withdrawn in c. September 1939 due to fuel rationing following the outbreak of the Second World War, and was one of many withdrawn services that did not return after the War.

From c. 1949 [Exact Date Needed], Service 379 was operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) on Wednesdays only, running between Tewkesbury, Sledge Green, and Rye Cross. Two return journeys were operated, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The 1955 timetable was identical to the 1949 timetable, and the service had been withdrawn by June 1957, but little else is know about this service at this time.

Service 379 (1964–1971)

On Monday 7^th September 1964, as part of the first round of Beeching Cuts, the railway line between Leominster, Bromyard, and Worcester was closed. The Leominster to Bromyard section had already been disused for a number of years, and these cuts saw the remaining line between Bromyard and Bransford Junction close. With it, stations at Leigh Court, Knightwick, Suckley, and Bromyard were closed and a replacement bus service was provided by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) as Service 379.

Service 379 ran on Mondays to Saturdays with most journeys linking Worcester and Bromyard with the villages that hitherto had a railway station on the line, although some short-working journeys only ran as far as Suckley Station. Other journeys ran direct between Worcester and either Bromyard or Suckley along the A44, over the same route as Service 420 and using Service 420 fare tables.

In the early 1970s, a large number of rural bus services were cut back or withdrawn and this included Service 379, which had a number of journeys withdrawn in 1970 before being withdrawn entirely the following year. Service 379 ran for the last time on Saturday 3^rd April 1971.
