Service 268: Service History

Service 268 (1925–1928)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

From Saturday 30^th October 1915, Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) had operated Omnibus Services between Worcester and Tewkesbury as Service 50. On Saturday 16^th May 1925, BMMO renumbered their entire network, and at this time the Tewkesbury service was renumbered to Service 268.

By the time of the renumbering, the route had been extended past Tewkesbury to Bredon and Overbury on certain journeys, and two journeys each day started or finished in Great Malvern, not Worcester.

On Saturday 1^st May 1926, the Tewkesbury to Bredon and Overbury section of the route was withdrawn, and the route was standardised with all journeys starting or finishing in Great Malvern. The withdrawn section of the route became new Service 269 and was shown as a distinct route in timetables, running two return journeys on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The route numbers 268 and 269 were short-lived as the network was again renumbered on Saturday 11^th February 1928, this time to Service 364 and Service 365.

As Service 364, the Great Malvern to Tewkesbury route operated until the closure of Malvern depot in 1976.

Route Summary

¹  Morning and evening journeys (where the bus ran out or back to the depot) started or finished at Worcester, running via Callow End between The Rhydd and Worcester.
