Service 415: Service History

Service 415 (1929–1978)

Service 415 was introduced by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) in the late 1920s (exact date needed) as a Bromyard Market Day service running on Thursdays only between Bromyard, Crowels Ash, and Pencombe. Initially this route was Service 299, but it was renumbered to Service 415 in February 1928, as part of a general renumbering of all Midland Red services.

In the early 1940s, the route had been extended from Pencombe towards Hereford with certain journeys running to Ullingswick or Felton. Additional journeys were added on Wednesdays and Saturdays for Hereford@apos;s Market Day, but most of these only ran between Hereford and Pencombe, with only one journey working the whole route from Hereford to Bromyard.

By 1972, all of the Thursdays and Saturday journeys had been withdrawn, with only two return journeys between Hereford and Pencombe running on Wednesdays.

The service was withdrawn with the introduction of the “Wandaward” MAP scheme on Saturday 11^th March 1978, and partly replaced by new Service H24, which ran on Fridays only, and new Service H25 running on Wednesdays only.
